Immigration Adviser Licensing

Living New Zealand has one immigration adviser who is fully licensed by the New Zealand Government - Glen Standing (No.200800361). Glen is also Living New Zealand's Director of Immigration and owner of the business.

The Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 requires anyone providing New Zealand immigration advice from New Zealand to be licensed and adhere to a Code of Conduct.

Offshore Advisers (ie. those not in New Zealand) giving advice on New Zealand immigration matters must have a licence by 4 May 2010.

New migrants can be confident they are getting sound advice and professional service at a fair price when they work with a Licensed Adviser. Look out for the symbol to the right.

The creation of professional standards for Immigration Advisers is helping protect migrants against receiving poor advice or unprofessional behaviour, and being charged unfair fees.

The law also helps protect New Zealand employers who offer jobs to new migrants and reassure them their employee is getting the best possible advice, which will minimise risk to their business.

The IAA keeps a publicly available register of licensed Immigration Advisers, administers complaints against licensed advisers, and takes enforcement action against agents not licensed.

To search this register and for more information visit www.iaa.govt.nz

Code of Conduct

All licensed advisers must follow the IAA Code of Conduct, which outlines professional and ethical conduct, including:

obligations to clients;

obligations to the Minister of Immigration, the Department, including the Immigration Advisers Authority and Immigration Tribunals;

business management;

client funds;

misrepresentation;

conflicts of interest;

disclosure;

fees;

provision of complaints procedures;

display of licence.

All licensed immigration advisers are required to explain the Code of Conduct to clients and give them a written copy. It is also published in the New Zealand Gazette.
